The Global Opportunity Of Business Essay
The Global opportunity of business has companies in the forefront, vying to get the potential lead on an international level. Culture is defined as the sum total of beliefs, rules, techniques, institutions, and artifacts that characterize human populations. In China business culture is considered unique with the environment in China being structured through its government and its controls over the economic system. This structure can shape the behavior of a people and from this myths can be formulated concerning certain countries that become ethnocentrism and centered on myths (Kreitner, Kinicki, 2013). In this case study I will provide my personal assessment on a series of questions covered in chapter 4 on Managing across Cultures. The first question deals with if the presentation challenged any assumptions I have about China and the
Chinese people? Secondly, if using my best cultural intelligence, how would I adjust my behavior on a business trip? Third, what cultural adjustments will Chinese managers need to make if they want to effectively manage Americans in the rapidly growing number of Chinese- owned businesses in the United States? Fourthly, based on what I learned in the chapter, would I be more or less interested in getting a foreign assignment some day?
After reviewing the case study on China Myths, China Facts, I have concluded that the presentation has not challenged my assumption about China or the Chinese people.
