The first time I got arrested
It all started one warm summer night in Lynn, Massachusetts back in good old 1998. I had just almost passed my sophomore year in high school falling one credit shy. I was going to summer school for fifteen minutes every Friday morning and this is how my day started out.
It was like any other Friday going to school to hand in some assignment and going back home to sleep for a few more hours but this day was different. My friend Sean called me up just as I got home and asked me if I wanted to start on some drinking. As the girls got in the car the smoke cleared enough to see the faces around me and we were off to the store to get more beer. Since none of us were old enough to buy the girls worked the feminine charms on the old man behind the counter and soon came back with a few packs of tall boys and said they wanted to go to their friend’s house in the next town. The ride there was a blur, slowly drinking what was to be my last drink of the night while talking a forgotten conversation with the girl next to me. When we pull up to the house the pills had taking there full effect as we said goodbye to the girls. Kimball needing to use the phone went with them leaving me, Pappy and Sean in his car with the engine running. As he disappeared into the house Pappy spoke the words I will never forget “Time to do some driving” as he jumped into the drivers seat.
We were off, Embracing the insanity we yelled in approval as he took off with one foot on the gas and one on the brake the car bounced on it’s busted shocks like it had hydraulics as we made our way down the street and taking the first right. Sean and I were in the back seat but we could both see Papys mistake, the road had lines of cars parked on both side and all there headlights were pointing at us, we were on a one way street going the wrong way.
