Motivation is the processes that account for an individual’s intensity, direction, and persistence of effort toward attaining a goal (Robbins & Judge, 2014). The motivation piece in an organizational environment is pertinent to a successful business. Upper management needs to support and motivate their subordinates in the environment to keep their vivacity and vitality up as much as practical. When the motivation piece in an organization is at its best, the business will thrive. All employees tend to work at full capacity when this piece is implemented. There are various motivational theories when we look at the motivation piece; nonetheless, I will be concentrating on two essential ones that tend to drive results. These two essential theories are the expectancy theory and the goal setting theory.
Initially, I will be discussing the expectancy theory of motivation. In one’s lifetime, one will expect numerous things. When one expects something, one will alter his behavior to make certain that the expectation comes through. Expectancy theory is basically just that it drives an individual willingness to do a task base on their expectation. These are the two questions I ask myself when I utilize the expectancy theory of motivation in my organization. What do I expect in the near future? Usually I scrutinize the months ahead to see what events are coming up (promotion, evaluation possibilities, bonuses etc.). When this information is acquired, the second question comes into…
