There are many headline events that changed my life in positive and negative ways. Some of them were good and some of them were bad. We live in a world where even the smallest things can have a humungous impact on our lives. There have been times that made me feel incredibly vulnerable and there were times that I was not sure if I would make it out alive. Even though I am still breathing, sometimes I do not see how. In Billy Joel’s song, “We didn’t start the fire”, he refers to many events that changed the course of his life. Three main events that changed my life were the terrible terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the devastating tornado that swept through Mississippi on April 27, 2011, and the wonderful creation of YouTube. I remember it like yesterday. We had just started second period at my high school when the principal announced over the intercom that there had been an attack on the United States, and for teachers to turn on the televisions in the classrooms. The first thing that went through my head was that the president had been assassinated. Just as my teacher turned the television on, the video of the first plane to hit the World Trade Center was playing. Chills ran down my spine as we watched the towers collapse, and engulf the city in grey smoke. When we were informed that the attacks on America were carried out by terrorists that wanted to kill Americans, I remember feeling very scared and vulnerable.
