Video Game Violence's Negative Effects On Children

Most kids nowadays are simply entertained by a simple video game. Whether the game be on a computer or on a gaming console. A majority of the video games today are filled with some form of violence. The violence in these games today can affect children early in their childhood.

At an early age kids start playing video games by watching an adult or older sibling play them. Video games are a way of entertainment but sometimes too much time is spent on entertainment. In Dr. Phil 's article he states that a research has been done and found out “ an average of 13 hours per week [played] for boys and five hours [played] for girls (Children and Violent Video Games; par 1). Not only are they spend a good amount of time playing, but the violence is leading to a rise in the children 's aggression. Dr. Phil states in the article that "The number one negative effect is they tend to inappropriately resolve anxiety by externalizing it. So, when kids have anxiety... instead of soothing themselves, calming themselves, talking about it, expressing it to someone … they tend to externalize it. They can attack something, they can kick a wall, they can be mean to a dog or a pet (Children and Violent Video Games; par 2). Kids do not tend to learn good traits from violent video games they tend to form bad habits. They are not provided with good moral values but as stated in the article "If you shoot somebody in one of these games, you do not go to jail, you don 't get penalized in some way — you get extra points" (Dr. Phil; Children and Violent Video Games; par 3).
