Sleep determines the health and well being of a person 's live and is a necessity to perform well in school and to be effective at work. Not enough rest can affect people’s mood and ability to learn and keep information. Amongst all of those who do not get enough sleep, college students are several of them. According to research, sleep plays an important role for learning in these students lives. Most college students do not get enough sleep due to a immense amount of school work, job work, and outside activities; the life of a college student who does not sleep enough have consequences in school and in their social life.
The National Sleep Foundation showed college students must get at least 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep in order for them to work at their best. Although these are the required hours needed for college students, they do not rest as much because of having multiple classes, difficult work schedules, and occupied social lives. In result, sleep becomes less of a priority to them. They tend to experience forced nights being awake during the week, on the weekends, and short sleep time.
Not enough hours of sleep affect a person 's mood and may cause anxiety and disorders. It has been rated that no sleeping impediment causes significant emotional imbalance in these young adults in colleges meaning students may go through depression.
