“A new study has found that about 92 percent of high school students aren 't getting enough sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation, teens need at least nine hours of sleep per night” (Tweed, 2010). Getting a good night 's rest can make a big difference in how a person feels. Sleep too often is treated like an option when it very well is not. Sleep is essential for survival and plays an important factor in being healthy. School should start later in the morning due to teens suffering from sleep deprivation, having low academic performance, and having their safety jeopardized to show the comparison between early starters and late starters proving that a later starting time would benefit students greatly.
Sleep deprivation is one of the biggest issues for teenagers. Lack of sleep gives no time for repair of the body and mind. Our bodies and brains use all of our energy throughout the day, meaning during sleep is the only time for the body and brain to be replenished or repaired.
Judy Peterson (2010) claims that our brains evaluate any activities that occurred throughout the day and processes/stores memories to make them long term. While sleeping, the brain also resolves any issues that were previously bothersome. The final answer your brain comes to after sleep may be very insightful.
