It is very important to develop communication skills with patients and your colleagues. The reason this is so necessary to develop with your patients is because it identifies hidden agendas and recognizes psychosocial issues. Understanding that patients may be in an altered state of consciousness is a great importance. They may be in an unfamiliar environment in which they are no longer in complete control. McKee found out he had a growing tumor in his throat. At first, he did not know how to cope with knowing that he might die; at times he would try and drink off the pain or work his regular hours, but later in the movie he noticed that he had to come to reality and do something about it. That is when he met a woman by the name of June Ellis that was dealing with cancer like he was, and she would later help him cope through the fear of dying. This allowed me to realize that everyone is different when empathizing with their feelings.
