According to the Centers for Disease Control (2015), CVD is the leading cause of death in the United States and for both men and women more than any other disease; that’s one in every four deaths in the country. It is also the number one cause of death globally, statewide, and regional with more people dying annually, than any other cause, with an estimated 17.5 million people dying from CVD’s in 2012.
About 610,000 people die of heart disease in the United States that’s 1 in every 4 deaths. An estimated 7.4 million deaths were due to coronary heart disease and 6.7 million were due to stroke; and in addition, three quarters of CVD deaths take place within low and middle income countries (CDC, 2015).
“In 2008-2010 the South had the highest record of heart disease, with the lowest being in the West” (CDC, 2015). Studies show that Cardiovascular disease (CVD) continues to remain the main cause of death in the state of Georgia; this disease amounts for well over 20,000 deaths annually, which estimates to 1 in 5 cases of mortality rates (GDPH, 2015).
