Debbie Walsh is the director of Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP), at the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University. CAWP is known nationally for leading scholarly research and keeping of current data on American women participation in politics. As the director of the center, Walsh has engaged extensively with women office holders and organized dozens of national conferences for women.
Prior to this position Ms Walsh served as the New Jersey Advisory Commission on the Status of women where she was appointed by two subsequent governors of the state. Ms. Walsh holds a bachelor of arts in political science from SUNY Binghamton and earned her Masters of Arts in political science at Rutgers where she joined CAWP. Ms Walsh has demonstrated impeccable leadership by encouraging more women to run for elective positions, and this is why she was the perfect candidate for this interview.
After Walsh earned her Masters of Arts in political science she developed a passion for leadership. She realized that there were few women who were in elective seats in the country. She then decided to encourage more women to take up leadership roles by using her skills and ambition to show women that they can lead too. She formed training programs on leadership and campaign that empowered women to fully participate in politics and other leadership positions.
