Animal experimentation- the process of using animals to test the safety of products in order to better understand the workings of the human body. Did you know that 95% of the animals used in experiments are not protected by the AWA? (animalresearch.thehastingscenter.org) This includes rats, mice, birds, fish, and many other creatures common to animal experimentation. 80% of the world allows animal testing for cosmetic products; however, approximately half of the global cosmetic market is closed to the idea of using animals to test their products. (Engebretson 3) Animal testing may be beneficial in some ways; however it has not proven to be a completely accurate process as animal cells are much different than human cells. Animal experimentation should be banned because it is inaccurate, animal tests are more expensive, and it causes great pain and suffering to the animal on which the test is performed. …show more content…
“It is very hard to create an animal model that even equates closely to what we’re trying to achieve in the human” states Paul Furlong, a professor of Clinical Neuroimaging at Aston University. Animal cells are so much different than human cells and they work so much differently that it is nearly impossible to reliably predict the human reaction based on an animal test. 94% of the drugs that pass animal tests end up failing in human trials (understandinganimalresearch.org). Since animal testing is so unreliable we should stop using animals and use computer
