The development of anti-smoking ads and electronic cigarettes makes it kind of hard for cigarette advertisers to really advertise anything. Also after the postwar when cigarettes were on a rise and all the soldiers were using them, there was also a rise in lung cancer when time before lung cancer was a rare medical condition. Today’s day they still try to get you to buy cigarettes by somewhat the same way but they just don’t advertise the individual companies like they did before. They use pretty much just a slogan ad, there aren’t that many TV ads anymore. I also think because of the poison and drugs that they put in it make people constantly use them.
The most effective way that I think they tried to get people with advertisement is making people think that there is nothing wrong with smoking cigarettes. Making cigarettes look like it is a thing that you would do when you want to relax or when you need to get a buzz to get mind away from things. If I had to describe this type of advertising, I would say it is affiliation advertising.
