1968 was a year full of violence, the turmoil in Chicago alone divided our country. The Chicago police attacked 6,000 anti war marchers, national leaders Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy were assassinated, and New York City students had taken over several buildings at Columbia University, by the time of the Democratic National Convention there was a lot of political tension.(“Democratic National Convention….”) The Chicago Seven were the accused leaders of the riots during the 1968 Democratic Convention.

The Yippies “festival of life” concert got disrupted by police from the very beginning. It ended with a violent fight between the police and the crowd. This lasted from 11pm-2am. The next day was the National Mobilization Committees turn. They had planned a peaceful march to protest the war. However this also turned into a violent fight between the police and the protesters, the police were clubbing the crowds heads and spraying them with mace just to try to get a little control over the situation.(“Democratic National Convention…”)

being arrested.
