People sometimes read the Bible story of Noah and his great ship which was five hundred feet long and seventy-five feet wide, and wonder if it is really a true story.
When Moses wrote the Book of Genesis he quoted God as saying, “I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth” (Genesis 7:4).
And then I read, “And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills that were under the whole heaven, were covered. Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered” (Genesis 7:19-20).
Except for the creation, the flood of Noah’s day is the most awesome event this world has ever known. The Bible details this event; telling when it began and ended, how long it lasted and why it happened. (Gen. 7:11-24) And, it is mentioned many times in the Bible. The Lord Himself made mention of it. (Matt. 24:38-39)
Fifteen hundred years after the flood, Peter said, “There shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts and saying, where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the Word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water; whereby the world that was then was, being overflowed with water, perished” (II Peter 3:3-7).
