Similarities Between The Yoruba Tribe And The Bible

The Great Flood is known by everyone but is told in such different ways. Examples of two different stories about the flood are the African Myth from the Yoruba tribe and the bible. They both tell the same story but have many things different with them. For example, how the world was created, the creation of man, and how the story of the flood actually happened. In the beginning, the Bible says that God is the creator of the world and of all things. In the version told by the Yoruba tribe, the flood is seen as a myth and the god Obatala was the creator of the world. In the bible, it states that God made the world within 6 days and rested on the 7th. Whereas, in the Yoruba tribe, it took Obatala months to complete the task. For the Bible, God gave Noah a warning that He was going to flood the entire world, and gave Noah special instructions on how to survive it. God told Noah exactly how to build this special ark and to take two of each animal, one female and one male. In the African Myth, the god Olokun, god of everything under the sky, was mad that her land was being illegally processed by Obatala. Unlike in the myth, once the flood came, Noah was prepared for everything being wiped cleaned. In the Bible, after 150 days the water retreated and Noah started the human race over again. Olokun, however, threw a tantrum and flushed big waves of water over Obatala's creations killing almost everything and everyone. The few who survived went up to the tall mountains and prayed to the god, Eshu, to save them. Eshu requested sacrifices, and the people did just that. They sacrificed their animals. Then, just like that, the water was cleared; marking the end of the
