Are The Similarities Between Ovids Metamorphoses And The Old Testaments

1) The two chronicles of the flood, Ovids metamorphoses and the Old Testaments told in similar form and they were in many ways similar and had several things in common. In both chronicles the gods believed that the world obtained to much violence, God said to noah that "The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.” so in both stories the gods decided to flood the world and rid it of all man kind except for two different men and their wives. In both chronicles they say that humans were created by the Gods image. The stories have have the same reasoning and stance behind them and the gods go about very similar ways handling the situations in the chronicles. …show more content…
In Ovids version of the flood he had help from his brother neptune, while in Genesis it was only god creating the flood. In Genesis God intended for Noah and his family to live, although in Ovid, Jupiter did not intend for anyone to live but Deucalion and his wife happened to survive. In Ovids version the animals came from the Sun and water and the humans came from Deucalion and his wife throwing parts of the earth and it would sprout into human beings. While in Genesis on the ark that Noah built there survived a male and female of each animal so that they could reproduce.
