We as human beings have an unbelievable power to use our brain to comprehend the world around us. But this is all lost when we are just mindlessly obeying with a so called leader. Along with our society it seems there has to be a person in charge. All this comes to play in the idea of the banking concept; losing all the students’ abilities to critically think, affecting them in the long run. Paulo Freire in ‘The Banking Concept of Education’ he claims that “Narration leads the students to memorize mechanically the narrated account. Worse yet, it turns them into “containers,” into “receptacles” to be “filled” by the teachers”(1). Freire also addresses the idea of problem-posing education which uses the critical thinking skills that we have, that are not in use during banking education. During this letter to you, I will be reflecting upon his ideas towards my own schooling experiences, but also extend it out towards educators, in general, to observe ways students have been empowered but also marginalized in this day and age of education. This needs to come to your attention, but also any educator in general that our educational system is failing us past middle school. It seems to be that in school, we are supposed to follow the rules and always obey the teachings of the instructor. But what happens when the pupil doesn’t fully understand what the instructor is trying to convey onto the general audience of the classroom? It’s come to attention that some students will not…
