The name “Amish” originated from Jakob Amman, a Swiss Anabaptist leader and the founder of Amish religious movement.
He taught his followers to live non-resistant lives, care for the local community, work the land and follow the Bible’s teaching.
The Amish migration to North America began in the 1700s, they first settled in Pennsylvania. Today its estimated to have over 250,000 Amish living in 28 US states.
