In Andersons essay he states, “Today we are living, for better and worse, in a world of stupid games.” (65). Anderson is not wrong in what he states, the game that have been are stupid and straightforward. The games have no story or any difficulty to make them a challenging game and not a stupid game. For example if you look at the game Angry Birds, the game is simple with the objective of hitting a pig that is encompassed by flimsy walls. All the player of the game has to do is touch the screen and pull the bird back to where you want to launch it at the pig. The game is very simple and in Andersons eyes stupid. Anderson says, “The Angry Birds creators like to compare their game with Super Mario Brothers. However, the first and simplest level of Super Mario Brothers takes about a minute and a half to finish. The first level of Angry Birds takes around 10 seconds.”(67). I find this to be offensive to the creator of Super Mario Brothers because the creators are comparing a stupid game to a game that requires skill at times and a game that is not completely stupid. Do not get me wrong that some of the levels are very easy but if you were to compare the easy levels of Super Mario Brothers and Angry Birds, Angry Birds is vastly simpler than the easiest level of Super Mario Brothers. As Anderson said, the easiest level of Angry birds is ten second long while …show more content…
Anderson states, “Corporations, of course, have been using similar strategies for decades, hooking consumers on products by giving them constant small victories for spending money” (67). By companies using small victories or achievements, they hook people onto their game which help them get addicted because of the constant victory whether it be for spending money or something simple. “We play them incidentally, ambivalently, compulsively, almost accidentally. … You glance down to check your calendar and suddenly it’s 40 minutes later and there’s only one level left before you jump to the next stage, so you might as well just launch another bird.” (66). The addiction of these stupid game can be bad at times like what Anderson said in the quote, time can quickly pass if we are really addicted to the game. I can personally vouch these addictions are possible, I was addicted to one game and I said to myself that I will only play for a few minutes. Those few minutes turned into an hour and I never thought I was playing the game that
