Teen pregnancy is when females under the age of 20 become pregnant. It is considered to be a colossal problem in most countries. The prevalence rate is increasing for some countries i.e. USA and Sweden. Whereas, in some countries it is showing a downward trend i.e. Canada. This study examines the relationship between sexually abused adolescents and teen pregnancy. Risk factor includes anything that increases the chances of a problem behavior. Sexual abuse either by a stranger or family member is identified as a risk factor for teen pregnancy. Adolescents who have a history of being sexually abused tend to not use contraceptives when compared to their non-abused peers. Another risk factor includes substance abuse, especially before intercourse. This may impair their judgement and will lead to unprotected sex. Running away from home can result in prostitution, which increases the chances of getting pregnant. This study used secondary analysis of data from Minnesota student survey of ninth and 12th graders; all the participants were sexually active or had some sexual experience.
