My understanding of feminism has always been that it was advocacy for womens rights and equality. It has deep roots in the womens suffrage movement of the nineteenth century. This dealt mainly with womens right to vote the same as men. Susan B. Anthony was one of the leaders of the suffrage movement. feminism has always sought to fight against the traditional roles that women have always been put into such as being a wife or mother. Rebecca Walker(1995), explains that "A feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full humanity of women and men.” I've never particularly considered myself a feminist but I always felt that there was no reason for women to not receive the same treatment as men in this world.
