I observed both supportive and defensive communication behaviors during this episode. One defensive variable I noticed was evaluation. When Joey told Ross they didn't agree with his decision to move, Ross got defensive and confronted the group. Ross felt that the decision he was making was best for his marriage and the others were just being judgemental. This caused tension within the group, because Ross refused to talk to them, or listen to their opinion on his move. The supportive communication behavior I noticed was empathy. Phoebe didn't fully agree with Ross' decision to move; however, she understood his decision was solely to fix his marriage. By empathizing with Ross, she helped him understand that the others were just concerned about
