Bakers lack of communication and verbal abuse towards Darren caused differences between him and Ricky, and provoked him to participate in the violence within the neighborhood. They also did not have a father figure like Tre did. As mentioned above, Furious provided Tre with advice on how to be a responsible adult. The Baker’s did not have such a figure to provide them with advice which led to unhealthy relationships. For example, Darren did not show respect for women, he believed women were “bitches” and “Ho’s”. A father figure such as Furious, would communicate with Darren and teach him to value and respect women. “Problems occur as the result of ongoing patterns of communication within the family” according to Family systems. (Robinson, slide 8). In Tre’s family, healthy ongoing patterns of communication resulted in Tre “backing out” when Darren and his friends decided to get revenge for Ricky’s murder. Also, he learned many life lessons from Furious. Mrs. Baker’s, failure of ongoing communication with Darren resulted in him and Ricky having differences, killing the people who murdered Ricky and ultimately, his own death. If Mrs. Baker were to communicate with Darren just as she did with Ricky, he would not take part in violence as Ricky did
