Jack was Charlie's roommate who was also in love with one of Spettigue wards. Without the character Jack, Charley would have never put on the costume and pretended to be his aunt. Jack was also the one who convinced Charley to go along with Spettigue advances, in hopes that he would give consent to their engagements to his wards. In the end, Jack was the one who started the main action of the play, without him, Charley may not have thought of pretending to be his own aunt in order for the young women to stay. Without Spettigue the show would not have had a phenomenal antagonist. Through his greed, he created a, unknowingly, humorous love relationship with Charley, though he thought it was Don Lucia Dalvidorese, a famous millionaire. Without this relationship, Charley would not have gotten consent to marry Amy, and for Jack to marry Kitty.
Overall the lighting was pretty standard, simple lighting. However, during the song “Pernambuco” the stage darkened, using red and yellow lighting, and flashing lights were used to exaggerate the craziness of the made-up town. I was exceptionally worried that the flashing spot lights were going to throw someone into epileptic shock, but thankfully no one was harmed. Another instance where different lighting was used was when the characters were entering the Red Rose Cotillion, the stage was at it’s darkest during this scene, with faint yellow lighting.
