The case study; Polska Pipe Works, refers to the negotiation and management practices of an American company that expanded its market to Poland and the Central and Eastern European countries. Stewer Technologies, an American pipe manufacturer, create a joint venture in Poland to manufacture polyethylene pipes in the Polish city of Krakow. Poland is a city with 38 million of people, Poles are people who are very proud of their roots, and heritage, Poland is a communist country. Stewer Technologies created a company in Poland to avoid transportation costs and tariffs, Polska Pipe Works, the company hired an American director to be the plant manager, and the rest of the employees were Polish, in addition a temporary American team came to work with the company. However, the Polish employees were not taking advantage of the trainings, instead the employees were complaining about their salary and benefits compared to what the American workers were making. All the changes that Zukowski made for the company made the employees unhappy, and it made it very difficult for Zukowski to keep implementing changes and improve Polska Pipe Works. There are many problems that were not set up clear in the negation process of Stewer Technologies and Polsa Pipe Works. First, there are two different cultures involved in the negotiation process; this means that each culture has different beliefs, different ways of working and managing a business. In the negotiation process, it was agreed that an American manager would be chosen as a plant manager director and the rest would be Polish workforce, which leaded to the main problem of the business, it was never decided if Polska Pipe Works was going to use American quality management best practices or Poland’s management methods.
