Introduction Funding can be a cause of concern for any organization or program, whether for-profit or not-for-profit. Non-profit organizations and programs rely heavily on the financing from grants. According to "Grants 101” (n.d), “a grant is a way the government funds your ideas and projects to provide public services and stimulate the economy. Grants support critical recovery initiatives, innovative research, and many other programs listed in the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA).” This paper is going to go through the process of writing a grant proposal, using a new program called “Encouraging Families” as an example. Planning Process The program planning process can be a complicated process. The first step of the program planning process is to find out who the target population is. The next step is finding out what the problem is that needs to be addressed. The third phase of the program planning process is the budget, where is the funding coming from to start this new program. The grant writing process is similar as it will need a lot of research. The first part of the grant writing process is to find a grant. The second part of the grant writing process is to make sure it is a grant that this organization can apply to. Reading the guidelines of the grant is critical, as that is how the organization will know if it is eligible, as well as knowing all the due dates and what is expected to be explained in the application. The third part of the grant writing process is to describe what the program is. In this step, we also define who the target population is and why this particular program is needed. The final step of the grant writing process is to work on making the program a reality, and putting the grant together. This is where all the steps of the program planning process and the grant writing process all come together to make the appeal for the particular grant in question.
