Solar System Essay

The solar system was formed billion years ago the formation of the solar system was caused by the collapse of a giant molecular cloud. Therefore in 1610 Galileo Galilei was the first to discover the existence of the solar system he discovered many small details about the sun and the moon. Galileo also discovered several points of light around Jupiter which looked quite strange he first thought that “the points of lights” were stars surrounding Jupiter but their strange positions fascinated him and decided to get into deeper details. However the solar system consists of a central star called the sun which is surrounded by eight planets named Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The solar system also consists of …show more content…
Stars that are extremely hot are blue stars and yellow stars are average temperature. Stars are also classified by in which nebula they’re in for example nebulas in the interstellar medium are largely composed of hydrogen. A size of a star also determines how much gravity they have the larger they are the more gravity they have. Luminosity is also how stars are classified however the brightness of a star depends on how far that specific star is from Earth.

On the other hand we have many more things in the solar system like all the eight planets that rotate around the sun. Each planet has its own characteristics and different structures. Mercury has a dark gray, rocky surface which is covered with a thick layer of dust that is made up of igneous silicate rocks and dust. Mercury is the smallest of all the eight planets with no moons and it’s also the first planet of the solar system and the hottest planet during the day but during the night is very cold which means we cannot live there. Out of all the planets mercury makes the fastest revolution around the sun in 88 days, a day at mercury is way longer than a day in earth which means that 59 earth day equals one day in mercury. Mercury has the same characteristics as our moon it’s covered with craters made by asteroids

Venus is so bright that u can see it during the day that sometimes it looks like a bright star in the morning or evening sky the cause of this is because Venus is close to earth and the closer the object the brighter it is from Earth. However Venus surface is the opposite from earth it’s covered with mountains, craters, volcanoes and huge lava plains. Venus atmosphere is mostly made up mainly of carbon dioxide with thick clouds with really high temperatures that it could melt lead. Earth is our home planet known as the “blue marble” which is the third planet away from the sun. Earth is the fifth-largest planet in the solar system consists of one moon which was formed billions of years ago when the whole solar system was created. Earth has a variety of colors and small details it looks like a blue marble with white swirls with some brown, yellow green and white areas. The blue part of earth represents water which can be an ocean, lake, rivers, and streams all of this water takes 71 percent of earth’s surface The white swirls represent clouds and the atmosphere which is air made up of different gases mainly nitrogen and

Long ago, people believed that the Earth was the center of the universe, and that all the stars, planets, and other celestial bodies orbited around it. However, as pivotal discoveries were made and new theories emerged, society gained a much more insightful understanding of the cosmos above. In the second century, an astronomer by the name of Claudius Ptolemy proposed his geocentric model of the solar system, which depicted Earth in the center of the universe and the planets and the Sun orbiting in concentric circles around it. There were problems with this model, however, and years later an astronomer named Nicolaus Copernicus proposed another model which showed the Sun at the center.…

Most planets have a rocky molten core, but unlike most uranus is thought to have a core made up of icy materials. The liquid core makes up 80% of the mass of the planet, and is mostly comprised of water, methane, and ammonia. Uranus' atmosphere is mostly made up of hydrogen and helium. Unlike Jupiter and Saturn, these gases dominate only the outer edges of the planet, and are not a significant contributor to the rocky interior. Uranus atmospheric composition is made up of 82.5% of molecular hydrogen, 15.2% of helium and 2.3% of…

This chapter starts off by discussing how in the seventeenth century that the Earth was the only planet in the solar system. It also talks about how Galileo’s telescope showed that there was more than the Planet Earth. It showed that the Moon exited and that it is not a perfect round sphere. The telescope shows that the Moon has craters, mountains, and many more features that the Earth have.…

After watching the "What You Aren't Being Told About Astronomy DVD" I choose to talk about Venus and the Moon. Venus, the hottest planet and scientifically the most similar to earth. Science used to call Venus "The Sister Planet" because it's made about the same stuff earth. The Evolutionary Model tells that Venus was formed by the same natural processes as the earth, at the same times, same place and from same materials. (Psarris, 2017)…

Jupiter’s day is only about ten hours long. Jupiter takes twelve Earth years to make one revolution around the sun so, one revolution around the sun is equal to twelve years on Earth. Primarily it is made up of Hydrogen and Helium similar to the sun. In addition, the core temperature of Jupiter is around 43,000 degrees Fahrenheit, a lot hotter than the surface of the sun. Interestingly enough, if it had been about 80 times more massive, it would have actually become a star instead of a planet.…

Probably the most debated planet, Pluto was discovered in 1905 by Percival Lowell with predictions calculated through the orbits of Uranus and Neptune. However, Pluto was officially seen and declared as a planet in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh through a telescope (“Pluto Discovered.”). It has only been recently that we have discovered more about Pluto as the mission, New Horizons by NASA, just reached the planet.…

There are many theories that will be discussed in this paper, but it is possible that no one could ever really know for sure. However, Saturn is not the only planet with a ring system, there are a few others but nothing as extravagant as what Saturn has. There are many aspects that make Saturn the unique planet it is such as its rings, moons, composition, and many other things.…
