THE COLD PLUTO
By : Ethan Garcia

Pluto was discovered on February 18th, 1930. By an American astronomer named Clyde

William Tombaugh. The name Pluto was given to the planet by an eleven year old girl, by

The name of Venetia Burney. The scientist wanted to keep the tradition of naming the

Planets after Roman Gods of the Underwold. Pluto was said to be the smallest Planet in

the solar system and the ninth Planet from the sun, little after Pluto was recategorized

From a planet to a Dwarf Planet, but still smaller than other Dwarf Planets meaning that

It can not clear any objects out of its path.

Dwarf Planet Pluto was discovered to have five moons Hydra, Kerberos, Nix, Styx, and

Charon the largest moon.

Given the location of Pluto from the sun how does it affect the Planet ?

Pluto named to be the farthest planet out in the solar system and the ninth planet is very

alike earth but because Pluto takes longer orbit around the sun versus the earth, it has

longer and extreme seasons. Its tilt is much different from earth and that is was causes to

have its seasons slowly and extreme.

Why can’t humans never live on Pluto ? The very first reason that humans cannot live on

Pluto because it is so small that not everyone on earth would fit. Pluto’s atmosphere has

no natural light since it is so far from the sun, this means that there is no light or heat for ‘

humans to survive and continue life. It would be impossible to grow vegetation and

animals or humans to survive the freezing temperatures.

Having Pluto as the largest Dwarf Planet in the kupiter belt , having similarities with

Earth, but so far away from the sun it’s a very interesting planet. But not where humans

could survive. Humans would not have anything that can allow them to walk around

freely like we do on earth without freezing as soon as you step out of your

On March 13, 1781, William Herschel was looking at the sky through one of his telescopes that he had built himself, looking for anything interesting, when he noticed something that wasn’t a star and he thought it was a comet. A year later astronomer A.J. Lexell calculated its path and discovered that it was actually a planet. Herschel wanted to name it after the king, but other astronomers wanted to name it after Herschel, which it was for a time until they changed it to Uranus after the sky-god of Greek mythology. Astronomers made predictions about the movement of Uranus, but after a few years, they saw that it wasn’t moving in the exact way that they thought it would. The way planets move is affected by the pull of other planets.…

The discussion for this assessment is to explain, “Why was Pluto demoted to a dwarf planet?” While searching for another planet to explain irregularities in Neptune’s orbit, Pluto was discovered in 1930 by astronomers. At that time, the astronomers gave Pluto very little consideration due to its size, about the size of earth, and way too small to have any affect in altering Neptune’s orbit. As time passed, and technology improved, the size of Pluto was reexamined through improved satellite images, and found to be less than half of Earth’s diameter. Most recently, calculations established on images obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope, show that Pluto’s about one- fifth the diameter of earth and half that of Mercury (considered the runt of…

Like the other gas giants,Uranus doesn't have a firm surface. Scientists define the surface as the region where the atmospheric pressure exceeds one bar, the pressure found on Earth at sea level. Just above the "surface", since Uranus is a gas giant, of Uranus lies the troposphere. The temperature ranges from minus 243 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 153 degrees Celsius) to minus 370 F (minus 218 C), with the upper regions being the coldest. With temperatures like those it makes the atmosphere of Uranus one of the coldest in the solar system.…

The craters are huge and cover the entirety of the planet, making it appear like the moon that rotates around the Earth. There is no sign of life, whatsoever on this planet so from this it can be concluded that the temperatures are not ideal on this specific planet. There are also no signs of dust, water or anything that is needed for possible life forms to survive. It can be seen that the magnetic pull of Mercury is strong enough to hold…

    19. Pluto is no longer considered a planet, and is considered a dwarf planet because it has not “cleared the neighborhood around its orbit. This saying pretty much means that Pluto has gained control of the gravity around it. So astronomers made a name for these planets known as the dwarf planets, to show that it is a planet that continues to orbit the sun, but it hasn’t cleared the neighborhood. 20.…

Neptune is one of the four large planets in our Solar System known as Gas Giants. It is the eighth planet in order from the Sun, and was seen through a telescope for the first time on the 23rd of September 1846. Keeping to the traditional naming system used for all the previous planets, Neptune was given its name based on the Roman god of the sea, in reference to Greek and Roman mythology. General Information: Neptune has a vivid blue colouration to its layer of cloud cover. Higher absorption levels of red light caused by methane in its atmosphere is thought to be the cause of this bright blue tint.…

Pluto should still be a planet regardless of its size, and there are plenty more information to understand why it should be a planet, especially in our solar system. First of all, according to, Discovery Education, “For 80 years, schoolchildren have been taught that the Solar System has nine planets, from innermost Mercury to outermost Pluto.…
