Majority of these people use these apps to connect with friends, post pictures, and post about their daily life rather it be a video, picture, or a typed post. Most high school and college kids have their smartphone with them at all times to socialize. Some teachers and professors don’t allow students to be on their phone during class, but of course they always find a way to use it secretly. There are many methods of how students use their phones in class without the teacher knowing. Sitting your phone on the corner of your desk, while another student is sitting in front of you blocking your phone is one of the most used methods students use. While the students are being taught lessons in class, they aren’t focusing on their work or the instructor. Instead, their eyes are glued to their phone, tweeting about how they’re ready for class to be over, or sending their best friend snapchats. After a while, grades start to slip due to lack of attention in class. Test grades start to decrease, and classwork is being turned in half way done. Knowledge and information aren’t being stored memory because, social media is their top priority while sitting in their desk. On average, you should get about 8 hours of sleep each night. During the day, we are socializing and interacting with our friends through social sites. Working, going to school, eating, and doing other activities requires your body to have energy. Just how cars need gas in order to run, humans need energy in order to function. Before people decide to shut their eyes and get rest, they feel like they need to browse their social sites to see what’s going on first. Going through to check every site can take up a lot of time without you noticing. You feel as if you must know what is going on before ending your day. Checking the time to see that you’ve spent an hour on your phone, reminds you that you need to be up to start your day in five hours. Getting five hours of sleep isn’t good for your health. The day isn’t even close to being over with, and your body starts feeling tired. Forcing your body to keep up all the time can lead to health problems. High blood pressure is one of the issues involved with your body being overworked. To prevent that, make sure that you get enough sleep-for your body to function throughout the day. Checking social updates shouldn’t take up an hour of your time before going to sleep. Getting your eight hours of sleep should be your concern. Save checking your phone for your free time. One of my sources is an article called: Mental Health of Children and Young People at Risk in Digital Age. The paper doesn’t as such give you a final answer, but sets out the facts about social media’s effects on young adults. It is an article I found in The Guardian and was published on Wednesday 5th November 2014. The fact that it is only a year old is a benefit, as it is recent and talks of the problems of the world today with recent figures and facts. The text itself includes its own sources; although The Guardian’s own sources should be reliable due to its high reputation; it could be argued as biased, purely because the MP’s (one of their sources) are human and have their own views and thoughts that dictate their opinions.…

I think that Social Media is a distraction because, students are heavily involved in social media; causing a lot of attention problems. Also the brightness of the phone while the sound of a chime goes off from a text or notification can be a problem while you sleep. Students can lose a lot of sleep due to sleeping with the phone next to them, because once the phone lights up or bings, they will want to get up and check it. Students that are heavily involved in social media have "continuous partial attention", which means their ability to pay attention to one person or thing is nearly impossible.…
