College athletes go to college for an education, and to learn. But there is one question that keeps getting asked, and this question is very controversial. The question that people keep asking can cause a lot of trouble. There is no reason this question should even be brought up. There are tons of opinions about it, and a lot of them differ. The question is, “Should collegiate athletes be paid?” That is a pretty simple question, but that is where the chaos starts. Although some people believe college athletes should be paid, the truth is that getting an education and getting paid while doing it just do not go together. College is for learning and getting an education. Getting paid for being a collegiate athlete should not even be considered. The NCAA considers college athletes as amateurs, not professionals. The exact definition for amateur is “a person who engages in a pursuit, especially a sport, on an unpaid basis” ("The Definition of Amateur.", 2016. Web. 12 May 2016.)College athletes are not playing for money. They are playing sports to win a championship for their school and become a better athlete for the next level if they are good enough. One reason for college is to get an education for your future. A lot of NCAA athletes will not make it to the next level in their sport.
