“We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.” - Cynthia Ozick
Cynthia Ozick is an American Writer, novelist and an essayist. While many americans take for granted that they are American Citizens and they have this freedom, when in another country people would kill to be an American citizen. The least that people could do is respect the flag and the veterans that fought for the flag that represents this country. But these days people have started to kneel during the anthem to protest to show their frustration about equality. While many believe kneeling the anthem is a great place to protest, kneeling during the anthem is disrespectful to the people that have served our country, since there are other ways to protest and there is another proper time to do it.
Though kneelers believe that kneeling during the anthem is proper and not disrespectful because no one is getting physically hurt and this a great time for the football players to use their persuasion powers. These reasons are wrong because the football players shouldn’t use their persuasion for these reasons and get into these topics. Football players shouldn’t be able to make decisions for citizens and convincing other people that disrespecting the flag is good. Also even though it is non violent to protest by kneeling it is violating moral

Standing Up Who knew you could stand up for what you believe in by sitting down? Colin Kaepernick, the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, was doing exactly that when he sat down during the playing of the national anthem before a pro-football game; I agree and approve of what he did. He was protesting the different treatment of colored people and also the cops. After reading the article, ¨In the `Land of the Free,` Are You Free to Sit Out the National Anthem?¨ by Jaweed Kaleem, I learned that Colin Kaepernick is not the only one taking a stand.…

NFL Protest The most recent major sports league uproar has been the protests during our National Anthem. NFL players across every team have been kneeling, linking arms, or even just staying in the locker room. President Donald Trump spoke out about the situation on Twitter saying that the players should be suspended or fired for “disrespecting” our country. One of the points made by Trump was his approval of the players that were locking arms and complete disappointment by those who chose to kneel or stay in the locker room. I personally believe that it is your choice to kneel, lock arms, or stay in the locker room.…

What are NFL players taking a knee for and what are they gaining from it? This all started with Kaepernick last year who took a knee because of the way African Americans were being treated by police officers and by the community in America. That is understandable to be upset at police officers but it is not okay to take a knee for the National Anthem because if it wasn’t for the people who fought for our freedom and for this nation then we wouldn’t even have the freedom and ability to go through our everyday lives as we do now. So kneeling for the Anthem should not even be a thought in someone’s head or even an option because the flag and this nation was improving and becoming what it is now, before these players were even born.…

In today's culture we have seen people disrespecting our country, our military, and our flag by taking a knee during the National Anthem; thinking about those situations make me embarrassed to be affiliated with such a group of Americans. Those men and women sacrifice their lives so we can live ours and that idea ,right there, is what makes our country so beautiful and so peaceful, so why not be on our feet with our hands over our hearts reciting our anthem to show them we are thankful for their bravery? That is the least we could do since they get shipped away from their loving families to risk their lives for our freedom, which sometimes we do not…

When the “Star-Spangled Banner” plays at an NFL game, pride for the U.S.A. usually overcomes the crowd and gets everyone on their feet. The raw excitement for the game, a quintessentially American pastime, gets everyone riled up and screaming as soon as the tune comes to a close. However, San Francisco 49s quarterback Colin Kaepernick has recently made headlines for refusing to stand during the National Anthem in an attempt to shed light on the current racial situation in the United States. Athletes, fans, politicians, and even NFL executives have been vocal about Kaepernick’s “Anti-American” and “disrespectful” decision. Now I know what you’re thinking, what’s really the big deal about kneeling? Looking at the direct action we see that there is virtually no harm, however, when we look at the broad picture, we see otherwise. Base of Conflict Most Americans have begun choosing their side. Most NFL members have chosen to either remain in the locker room such as the Pittsburgh Steelers in order to avoid this absurd conflict, or they have chosen to stand individually. Some argue that they are kneeling during the anthem in order to protest for “Black Power” because they feel that they are oppressed in today’s society.…

According to Irving Janes (1972), groupthink occurs when a group makes an irrational decision because of group pressure fostering and the deterioration of ‘mental efficiency, reality testing, and moral judgement” (Irving, Janis, Victims of groupthink, p.9). Social influence is the effect that people have upon the beliefs or behaviors of others (Aaronson, 2004). Both groupthink and social influence theory have a factor in what we see as an ongoing reaction to the silent protest started by Colin Kaepernick in August 2016. In recent news on October 1, 2017 during a game between the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers, about 30 of the 49ers players took a knee during the national anthem.…
