Shawty Lo is an award winning, street rapper known for his counts of hit singles, albums and mixtapes. Rapper Shawty Lo was born Carlos Walker on March 26th, 1976 in Atlanta Georgia. Shawty Lo has been creating music since he was a child, and is considered among today's most talented rappers. He grew up in Bowen Homes projects, one of Atlanta’s poorest neighborhoods. His mother battled with a drug addiction leaving him to be raised by his grandmother. At age 17, she died of cancer leaving him on his own. He soon ventured into the streets where he committed several crimes. Shawty Lo had been arrested 28 times before he started rapping. He was convicted four times and was facing a 40 year sentence but his longest jail stint served was one year, in 1994.
Shawty Lo first founded his own own hiphop group in 2003, called “Down for Life” aka D4L. He founded the group with three other group members Fabo, Mook and Stoney. Shawtly Lo acted as the CEO to the D4L Records and he had the intentions of only working behind the scenes and never really contributing many verses to the group. After serving a one year bid in jail due to drug charges, Shawty Lo was released. Soon after, he reviewed several disappointing responses from his fans. Shawty Lo then begin to start to redeem himself as he stated, "I went to prison in 2004 and got out in 2005 and I knew I couldn't go back to the streets, so it made me hit the studio even more,". In 2007, he begin his solo career and debut album releasing his single ‘’Dey Know’’. This single quickly climbed number thirty-seven on R&B Hip-Hop songs. Shawty Lo was happy to be scoring this chart position as he stated, "It feels good to know my people are behind me even though I haven't been reppin' for like two years."
