As a state being described as a big-buckled outdoor ethic and intolerance of alternative lifestyles, as said by a New York Times reporter John M. Glionna, an older man named Sissy Goodwin defies these descriptions just be simply getting dressed each day. 67 year old male Sissy Goodwin is a cross-dressing cowboy from the state of Wyoming who likes to wear women's clothes, Sissy is one of many that defy what other people think about Wyoming. In the minds of people that don’t live in Wyoming, they see the state as a cowboy, farming, masculine, tough, and homophobic state. These things are simply not true about Wyoming, the state is just like other in ways of dress and actions. In another way that Glionna wrongly identified the state of Wyoming is in the looks of the Wyominites. Glionna commented that Wyoming is,“a place known for its big-buckled outdoor ethic”(He’s tough enough to...). In a sense this can be true but with the example of Sissy Goodwin, he shows that it's not all about a big buckled outfit. The phrase “known for “ it shows that when thinking of the state of Wyoming you would see/imagine a state of horse riding, tobacco spitting, yee hawing, cowboys, but if those people that thought that come to Wyoming they would see that the Wyomingites don't actually act like that at all. In conclusion, the way that Wyoming is described by Glionna is all wrong. John M. Glionna uses the situation with Sissy Goodwin as a way to show what he and others think Wyoming is but the fact is that it's all just not
