Setting Boundaries In Counseling

Hello, Professor and Classmates! Setting boundaries teach clients how you want to be treated and setting these boundaries also means it’s up to you to allow or not allow certain treatment. “Boundary rules include the “proper” amount of interpersonal space for various types of interactions (business, professional, service, sales, romantic, familial)” (Sommers-Flanagan 161). Setting boundaries are imperative in counseling because of the trust in the professional relationship and its part of the healing process. As a human service professional, a boundary that I might need to set for myself is to leave work at the office. I tend to bring my work problems home and talk about them with my husband and my husband always tell me to leave work at the office because it will be their tomorrow.
