In the patient setting, this failure to communicate adequately within teams can result in significant information being omitted and may have adverse consequences for the patient (Larios 2010). Dingley et al. (2008) suggests that in the absence of good communication, 70 per cent of clinical incidence events occur. Nonetheless, during this process I learned to develop personal knowing and become more self-aware of how my actions impacted on the others in the group. I have also learned to accept conflict as it is an inherent part of effective team functioning (Tuckman, 1965). After resolving these issues of miscommunication, we harnessed this discord within the team to agree on a future strategy for more open and professional communication (Day 2013).
