From the process of writing a critical analysis for each work of literature in the American Family Album to discussing the class’s different interpretations of those stories in depth, I was able to take my original thoughts and make them more versatile. This process helped me to create a basis for all of the essays we had to write in our English class. The three CA’s that I believe are my best works are “Raymond’s Run”, “Grace”, and “Nineteen Fifty-Five.” Not only do I enjoy these CA’s because I used two of them in my essays, but I feel as though I was able to relate to some of the key factors I wrote about regarding the main characters. “Raymond’s Run” was one of the first stories that really intrigued me because I saw some of my own characteristics …show more content…
I wrote about how hard it was for Jodi to trust her new adoptive parents because of her past experiences with other adults, which reminded me of my trust issues. I see myself as having to take a little extra time trusting people, even my closest friends, because I have seen the way that people treat each other and it frightens me. Although our trust issues are not completely the same, they are comparable. Lastly, I chose “Nineteen Fifty-Five” not because I wrote about it in an essay, but because the lessons I got out of this story stood out to me. It showed me that you should live your life the way you want to and not by the way others want you to. I felt like I could really relate to this because I used to become extremely stressed with others’ expectations of me and when I realized that I have to do what I want, I felt much more relaxed and happy. These stories sincerely exemplified the many hardships people face in a realistic manner. I was able to connect to them a great deal and that’s why they are my best CA’s. (448

I chose this book because this book tells a story like no other story that I have heard before. Standing in the Light: The Captive Diary of Catharine Carey Logan is Mary Pope Osborne's story of a young Quaker girl living in the city of Delaware Valley in the state of Pennsylvania during the time of 1763. In her diary entries, Catharine tells her life with her strong believing Quaker family that they have lived the importance of their religion as a Quaker family should live and sharing Catharine’s fears over the growing tensions between the Indians and the Quaker settlers that live among them. Then, one day on the was to school on January 9, 1764, Catharine's regular life changes forever when she and her younger brother, Thomas, are taken…

“Eighteen”, written by Maria Banus, I thought was a great selection. I enjoyed viewing the author’s perspective in becoming a young adult in today’s society. Although this was a short poem, it held a lot of meaning behind it that we discussed in class. The only character in “Eighteen” was the author expressing her thoughts of what happened when she turned 18 and couldn’t handle all of life’s offerings at once. I symbolized life as a “hot cup of coffee”, since Maria mentioned in the poem, “…I think of consuming life, but I am burnt, even by the of stream of its juices”…

Over the semester we have read a lot of short stories, the four that stuck out to me the most were Saboteur, Where have you been, Where are you going?, and Barbi- Q. Each story is has its own reflection like what I learned about myself, what I learned about other people, and what I learned about the world. What I learned about myself in Saboteur was not to let people get under my skin like Mr. Chiu let the cops under his skin when they threw the hot soup at him. You have to be the better person and not try and make a point because in the end you may not even get your point across just because the other people might be better than you.…

I chose the story of (In Cuba I Was a German Shepherd) because at first when I quickly looked at both stories I found that the story I chose had many meaning and events that happened to us as a Syrians when we left our country because of the war and how our lives changed overnight from one thing to another completely different, a new society, new people and a different life. The story sometimes made me cry, especially when I read some sentences that represented my case personally. (late in the night after several glasses of wine, someone would start the stories that began with "In Cuba I remember.") 1 (In Cuba, the stories always began, life was good and pure.…

My favorite story of this year was “The Treasure of Lemon Brown”. The reason why it was my favorite was because it shows us how something that costs nothing and looks bad could be so valuable to someone and how it means something important to one. The genre of this story is short story. The charters in the story are Lemon Brown, Greg, Greg’s dad, and the robbers that tried to steal Lemon Brown’s treasure. In the story the robber says “Where’s his gold?…

Being an editor for my publication Unnamed Trademarked Patent Pending has its up and its downs but writing an anthology for Gwendolyn Brookes, Sherman Alexie, Lucille Clifton, Sylvia Plath and Gary Soto was eye opening. These are some of the best poets that I have had the opportunity to read and appreciate in my lifetime. The diversity among the bunch was very fulfilling, from poetry about racial tension, native American culture, women empowerment, depression to young love. Initially the poems were picked at random but I think they came together perfectly by balancing each other out and ending with fiery.…

When I began the brainstorming process for this project, I was in a bad mood. No, I did not have a hard time thinking of memoirs to write, but the six that I had at the time were depressing and a bit cynical. Once looking back at those original six, while in an exceedingly better state of mind, I wanted to change them all as soon as possible. Through doing that, I realized how often my mood changed, and while thinking about that, I created these six memoirs, showcasing a few different temperaments I have throughout certain moments.…

The book Count of Monte Cristo there are many relationships between each charter and part of the book. My favorite part of the book was the ending because it surprised me how it ended. The topic that I chose was Hatred vs Love. The reason I chose this topic was because of the ending of the book, when he saw Mercedes again and when Abbe died. To illustrate the reason why I decided on the ending was because.…

Discussion Starter Quotation “I had improved on the new regimen. But I had become trapped in my identity as a “sick person,” someone afraid of living. If my mission in life had been reduced to being well at all costs, then the illness had won.” (O’Rourke 37) This quote seems important because allows us to understand the state of mind of the author, therefore, to understand her struggle and admire her resistance.…

“The Story of an Hour” Task Review My initial thoughts in Kate Chopin’s, “The Story of an Hour” was of great interest. I have previously not read any of Chopin’s work, or even heard her name. The story starts off with a very sad undertone of the death of her husband. But as it progresses, Mrs. Mallard comes to realize that the death of her husband means the rebirth of her own life. Her secrecy around this revelation shows the signs of the times and relationship she had.…

In spite of Jane Eyre being one of the most engaging novels of its time due to its brilliant plot and peculiar characters, it also has an abundance of historical importance as well. Firstly, Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre was one of the first modernist literature to be published. “‘Modernist Literature’ is [just] a hefty phrase that basically refers to literature written between 1899 and 1945, and involving experimentation with the traditional novel format” (Shmoop Editorial Team). The peculiar originality of this inspiring novel is that is distresses a lot of emotion. It captures the characters emotions and serves the raw reaction, giving the reader more of a personal connection with the roles involved in the staggering…

Many times, through our journey in life, we become impacted by something that we’ve either seen, heard, or maybe read that left a memorable imprint in our minds. Sometimes this could even be a reality check or a life learned lesson for us to do better. If I were to decide which two stories that I believe for most had a memorable impact to their life, I would say “New Boy” by Roddy Doley and “Lusus Naturae” by Margaret Atwood. Both stories share a powerful meaning behind them and deal with similar conflicts that we should learn from.. In the story written by Roddy Doley called “New Boy,” Doley shares a very realistic story about a refuge’s first day in class, named Joseph.…
