Lemon Brown's Treasure

Improved Essays
My favorite story of this year was “The Treasure of Lemon Brown”. The reason why it was my favorite was because it shows us how something that costs nothing and looks bad could be so valuable to someone and how it means something important to one. The genre of this story is short story. The charters in the story are Lemon Brown, Greg, Greg’s dad, and the robbers that tried to steal Lemon
Brown’s treasure. In the story the robber says “Where’s his gold? Where’s his money? Is that not his treasure?” The robbers also says “Well i guess the news on the street was wrong, this old man does not have any treasure.” These statements represent that the robbers were going to steal Lemon’s treasure because they thought it was worth money or money.

I selected "Party Time" by Tantra Bensko. The story is about Clyde Hancock's excursion into a strange l little town called Naryway, where a man skipping in the train might be caused to call the police, set the dogs loose, of even split his throat. The man send to be paid to spy on the town's inhabitants, but in this night he runs into an owl who causes an accident when it tries to fly off with him. Ultimately, Clyde is killed by the owl and it is made clear that though this sort of thing happens often in Naryway, no one will remember it as the owl feats on the memories. I chose this story because it seemed interesting and admittedly because it was written in a rather standard fashion.…

David Brown once said, “If you really loved me.” How far would one go, a daughter for example, for the one they truly love and care about? In the Cinnamon Brown case, David Brown, Cinnamon Brown’s paternal figure, tested his daughter’s love by convincing her to murder his wife. In what ways can the defense attorneys help Cinnamon refute the jury that she involuntarily and coercively committed this crime? Can visuals and illustrations produced by artists benefit a situation like this?…

The way the setting is described in “The Treasure of Lemon Brown” creates a foreboding mood and reflects a character’s feelings through the mood by using vivid sensory details. The setting works to create a foreboding mood throughout “The Treasure of Lemon Brown” by using vivid sensory details. An example of this is when the author says, “Greg had noticed that the door, once boarded over, had been slightly ajar . . . He reached the house just as another flash of lightning changed the night to day for an instant, then returned the graffiti-scarred building to the grim shadows.”…

“In writing, don't use adjectives which merely tell us how you want us to feel about the thing you are describing. I mean, instead of telling us a thing was "terrible," describe it so that we'll be terrified. Don't say it was "delightful"; make us say "delightful" when we've read the description,” -C.S. Lewis. Adjectives describe what the setting is like, the character of a person and help the reader visualize the book.…

My Favorite Short Story So far the story I like the most is “Hostage” by Joyce Carol Oates. The reason this is my favorite story so far because it is suspenseful. A way it is suspenseful is when she got taken by the guy no one had a clue what was going to happen next. In the story it shows a suspense part it says “By now the librarian from the sound adult room had emerged, and another women was poking her head around the corner…”(Oates1207). That shows that the lady didn't know what was going to happen.…

The story I picked is “what you pawn, I will redeem” by Sherman Alexie. I feel like this story related to me and past circumstances that have happened in my life. The story helps me to remember the general choices that I had to make in life. The hard choices that confronted me when growing up. The story brings two distinct ways, the adult way that surfaces with obligation and development and the youthful side that showcases the different adventures the main character has.…

I chose "In Cuba I was a German Shepherd" for my assignment because the title attracts me somehow. The story is about a group of immigrants from Cuba and their new lives in Miami. Although they feel that there are big differences between the lives in Cuba and US, they try to adapt to a new environment with domino games and Cuban jokes. I like the story because it teaches me the political history of Cuba and describes every scene so vividly that I can picture it in my mind with…

Throughout The Things They Carried O’Brien consistently challenges perceived notions. In the chapter “The Dentist” he addresses the idea that soldiers are always confident and fearless. The character, Curt Lemon, embodies the macho and cocky soldier stereotype. During the chapter, O’Brien conveys a tone of disdain towards this character. He states “when Curt Lemon was killed, I found it hard to mourn” (82).…

Without stories we would be lost, wandering around questioning everything but never getting any answers. Additionally, coinciding with my understanding of Thomas King's words, I would like to share a story of my own that I believe has influenced how I view the world and act. Maybe it’s more so a series of events than a story. “You’ll never believe what happened” (King, 5) is apparently the best way to start a story according to King, however I will start mine differently. I will retell the story how my Mom always did.…

my personal favorite story is the story of Star Wars, but not just the movie, the story of how a ragtag team of film makers made an amazing classic still alive today. The story of star wars begins in the California home of George Lucas where he began to capture the romance and adventure that he saw in old movies that he watched as a young boy as well as the heroics of the great Flash Gordon TV series. so george began to write the script for a screenplay that would one day be known as "Star Wars" Before George along with a crew of over 100 men and women could begin this interstellar epic they would need people to play the roles of the characters. The young hero, Luke Skywalker was played by Mark Hamil, a newbie to show business. the mentor and guide of the hero is the old and wise member of a long forgotten order of knights know as the Jedi, his name is Obi-Wan Kenobi played by Sir Alec Guiness.…
