Executive Summary Sears Holding Corporation is the fourth largest retailer in the United States and Canada. Its subsidiaries include Sears, Roebuck and Co. as well as K-Mart. The closing of the merger between Sears and K-Mart took place on March 24, 2005. Sears has more than 4,000 retail stores across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Guam. Sears offers products and services through over 2,700 branded and affiliated stores. Sears operates 894 broad-line stores and 1,354 specialty stores. Sears’ broad-line stores are mall-based locations. Also continued growth in production and manufacturing markets indicate a healthier economy. The turnaround in the economy, or at it is perceived in the financial markets as a slow funeral procession, should create a significant amount of new jobs and spending. The United States domestic market continues to rebound with the influx of new petroleum and gas industry related jobs, which creates new product demands. The Canadian economy continues to struggle in light of several unionized strikes. This has affected the creation of manufacturing jobs and stifled any chances of new jobs. Major manufacturing companies looking to grow have started moving south into America which at this time has becoming a more friendly market to produce in.
Market Summary Sears has good information about the market and is able to adjust its strategies accordingly. Sears strives to maintain excellence and offers quality customer service from knowledgeable staff. Sears products are high quality and come with warranties with an option to extend the warranty. Sears home service division offers delivery, instillation, and repair services.
