Scabies is a skin disease that is highly contagious and itchy. Scabies has 1 million causes each year in the United states. Scabies is caused by the itch mite that burrows down into the skin and lays eggs. The disease is contagious and can spread by prolonged touching (hand holding), sexual contact, sharing clothing, bedding, or towels. The disease spreads quickly in facilities such as schools, sports locker rooms, nursing homes, prisons, and rehab facilities. Symptoms of the skin disease in both males and females are itching skin, rashes (can look like hives, tiny bites, knots under the skin, or pimples), sores, and thick crusts on the skin. Common places of the disease are the wrist, elbow, armpit, niple, penis, waist, buttocks, and between
