In today’s world of professional soccer, there are two names that come up when the question of “who is the best player in the world?” is posed. Those two names are Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Lionel Messi is an Argentinian superstar, and
Cristiano Ronaldo is the Portuguese juggernaut. They are without a doubt the two best players in the world today. Messi is 5’7’’ and 148 pounds, soaking wet. Ronaldo, on the other hand, is 6’1’’ and weighs 165 pounds. He has a higher vertical than most NBA players and is faster over forty meters than some Olympic sprinters. Ronaldo is an athletic freak. He is very technically gifted and has a very powerful and accurate shot.
That’s not to say Messi doesn’t have all these qualities, but it’s not a question that
Ronaldo’s ones are better. The first aspect we can use to determine who the better player is would be to look at how their respective teams fared regarding trophies won. Messi and
Barcelona have earned a combine of twenty-five team trophies while Ronaldo has won only sixteen between Real Madrid and Manchester United (his former club). At first glance, it appears as though Messi is clearly the more valuable player on his team and that Ronaldo has not been as effective winning trophies for his team as Messi has. But after negating the less valuable team trophies: Spanish Super Cup, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the Community Shield, these cups should be negligible as the trophies do not hold much value in the world of…
