Galen connected a person’s bodily temperament and personality to imbalances of their humors. The four humours consisted of blood, phlegm, yellow bible, and black bible. It was believed that the balance and purity of these bodily fluid were essential for everyone’s health. In Greek it was believed that everything on earth including the human body were created by the 4 elements fire, water, air, and earth. The human body linked the 4 humours into the 4 qualities and seasons. The 4 qualities were hot, dry, cold, and wet the four seasons were summer, autumn, winter, and spring. According to Galen, “good-humor” consisted of sanguine, melancholic, phlegmatic, and choleric. An imbalance of these 4 humours it would cause disease and affect the personality and behavior of a person also known as
