If you go to most sporting events in Australia this is a high chance that you will hear or see some kind of racism by others in the crowd. This is a common occurrence in Australian sporting culture this could be towards other people in the crowd, athletes or umpires this could range from booing to name calling. There has been many examples of this but the most recent and well know is the incident with Adam Goodes. Although there are a lot of anti-racism campaigns pretty much everywhere most sporting events have some kind of anti-racism propaganda and also there is a lot on TV ads. Adam was an AFL that played for the Sydney Swans during a game a young Collingwood supporter called him an ape he immediately stopped and pointed at her to be taken out of the stadium. To only make matters worse this particular round was the indigenous round which is to celebrate indigenous people involved with the game. He copped a lot of back lash for this the person that he pointed out was a 13 year old girl who was extremely embarrassed by the whole thing as were her family. After this incident he was reportedly booed by the crowd. This had some impact as to why he decided to retire from football and leave the Sydney swans he retires after 372 games across 17 seasons. There has been a many tweet to Adam supporting him after he announced that he will retire. As well has the hates he has also had a lot of supporters Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley said: “When you see what it is doing to Adam, you have got to be able to stand up and understand that is somewhere we shouldn’t go.” This shows that this has had an impact on the whole AFL community. Adam Goodes also has received the Australian of the year 2015 for all of his work for anti-racism
