Richard Seaver begins his letter by acknowledging Herbert’s complication regarding the usage of Coca Cola’s slogan, “It’s the Real thing”, in the book Diary of a Harlem Schoolteacher. Seaver noted with a calm and mocking tone that, in order to avoid any confusion, salesmen in bookstores were notified to inform customers, who bought the book, that they wanted the book instead of the beverage (Seaver 2). The representative is using a calm and mocking tone, which shows that the issue was taken lightly and not seriously. Seaver does not state that the slogan would be removed from the advertisement.
