I think it is that kind of knowledge that allows radio broadcasts to be exciting and educational. I think Matteson was an excellent broadcaster and jazz personality; he knew something about everyone that played a part in creating the records he played, whether they wrote the music or actually played an instrument, and he shared this with his audience. Asking questions like that is a way of interacting with the audience, and allowing the listeners to think about their knowledge of jazz; some listeners may have known that about Jimmy Smith, and some may not have, but either way, asking the listeners a question is a way of keeping them engaged with what they’re listening to, instead of just talking them into …show more content…
The first two songs in particular really stuck out to me because of how fresh the singers’ voices were in combination with the overall styles of the songs. I loved the bass playing on “You Are the Sunshine of My Life,” as well as the ad-libbing and harmony performed on it. The harmonious scatting performed was very intricate, and elicited bright, popping colors such as bright yellow, orange, hot pink, and a minty, aquamarine color; a different color was heard for each part of the four-part vocal harmony. “Love is Here to Stay” was more relaxing. The vocal arrangement created a dream-like, floating vibe, comparable to a lullaby, and because it was a capella, I could hear everything clearly. The overall colors I heard in this one were medium blue, pale blue, and something similar to periwinkle. I love when singers sing in harmony because it offers something exciting and fresh to the
