Location: James Brown was born in South Carolina but was raised in Southern Georgia.
Band Members: James Brown’s first band consisted of members from his Gospel Based group from the 1950s where his career began as a musician. After his hit of “Please, Please, Please” they changed their name to James Brown and the “Famous Flames.” In 1970, Brown hired some young musicians to form his new band.

James Brown was born in south within a rural area that was nothing but extreme poverty that led him to be a role model within the black community that promoted self-determination. Brown had his first performance for Little Richard that was a fill-in impromptu performance with “Tutti Frutti.” As we talked about in class, James Brown is known as the Godfather of Funk and “The Hardest Working Man in the Show Business.” …show more content…
Many of his performances had the audience participating in call and responses, which had the audience come back and see him perform again. We also talked about how James Brown was very close to his band members as he wanted everyone to live in close proximity of one another and had developed a great sense of loyalty in his band. James Brown was very serious when they were practicing, as he would decrease the pay of his band members if they messed up when they played. James Brown is a great representative of funk and soul music as he reflected the changes that were happening as he pushed for the development of this musical
