Discrimination in the workplace has become less common up-to-date, yet still occurs almost daily for the working LGBT body. Homosexuality and LGBT used to be widely seen as a disorder, which caused a horrendous amount of discrimination, especially for those in a workplace environment. Schools, government agencies and companies, as well as the military, continuously refused to employ individuals believed to be homosexual. In Social Problems, John J. Macionis dedicates a chapter to sexual orientation and inputs the discrimination of those that correspond with the LGBT community. Employees who came out or were perceived as part of the LGBT body were fired due to their sexual orientation and not for any other justified reasoning (208). The evidence demonstrates the discrimination against LGBT people, which has found itself in the workplace. As well as the employment issue, the restroom controversy is also a part of the workplace discrimination. The workplace restroom controversy is a civil rights issue that has been sparking attention over the past few years. Within the workplace, employers have been placing bathroom restrictions for LGBT members for what they claim are health and safety reasons. Members of the LGBT body should be able to use the facilities that correspond with their gender identity, as well as be able to maintain a job where their sexual orientation or gender identity does not earn them unemployment. This controversial topic is still in play at this point in time and the LGBT rights are being debated in the presidential election at this time. Many states allow more equal rights for members of the LGBT community, though many others do not plan to pass any laws in favor of the LGBT
