Modern Day America Research Paper

Imagine a country where freedom is not guaranteed. In this dystopia, there is no protection from the “right” of everyone else to discriminate against anyone they disagree with. Therefore, people hide their true identity so they do not feel the wrath of their neighbors. But this is not just affecting their personal lives, it is harming their finances. Anyone can be fired at their boss's discretion for something that they cannot control. This is not an imaginary world, however, but modern-day America, and this is not the type of country we should be building. America is no longer the country of protecting personal freedom. Our country needs to return to the fundamental ideals of fighting for liberty and protecting the weak. While progress is being made in gaining acceptance for those citizens in some states, more needs to be done. Those people can still be fired from their jobs, just for being themselves; this is blatant workplace discrimination. America needs to not judge through the eyes of bigotry, but only judge on whether people can complete their jobs well. How can our country claim to protect liberty when the rights of a minority are jeopardized? This country needs to safeguard the rights of everyone, not just the rights of the majority.
