Resident Assistant Application Essay

This letter is to express my interest in the position as a Residential Assistant for The New School. I also sent my resume showing my experience, competence and reliability as a team member. This position caught my eye as soon as I stepped foot on campus, my parents and I were introduced to Ms. Marsha Dawson at a mixer and through her I gained an awareness of the possibilities of becoming an RA. I then did my own research and came away with the sense of pride that if given the opportunity, I would embrace the resident assistant (RA) position is truly a special one. No matter how small or how enormous the task, I would soon add the necessary human touch. In particular, I would, time and time again demonstrate that I truly care and my residents would soon discover that their university and residential experience is more than meaningful; it is also life transforming. I have a strong background of working with others in capacities both supervised and unsupervised. I earned a reputation among my supervisors and peers for ensuring satisfaction and if I commit an error, I own it and strive to do better; I would be delighted to supply a list of additional references upon request. In my first semester at TNS, I have admired the difficult work and interaction of our current RA’s and RD during my stay at Kerry Hall. They have been nothing but professional and I have enjoyed working closely with them as a floor representative for Hall Council. My role as a floor rep has been challenging and rewarding. Immediately after the recent presidential election, we had some challenging incidents on our floor that represented the confusion that we were all faced with but we all used dialogue and respect for one another to navigate this
