Mr. Lockwood I am writing you this report on Management and Leadership as you requested on 14 November 2016. I have reviewed the case study and I would like to address my concerns and recommendation about what I have read.
I have assumed that there are two main issues with this case. One of which involves a female employee not complying with the request that her manager has requested and her being disrespectful to the manager and also helping to spread the gossip about the young manager whom is in charge of her. I have also looked into the situation with the 26 year old manager getting his responsibility’s taken away from him due to lack of knowledge of being a affective leader.
During this investigation I have spoken with some key leaders

She completely disregarded what her manager was asking her to do and said that she would keep doing things her own way. That is the wrong answer. As an organization that is supposed to have good organizational behavior thou out all of our departments, we are lacking in that area and it is unacceptable.
The next problem is that we have a young manager who is trying his best to handle any and all situations without getting chastised by his employees or co-workers all because of his age group compared to many whom are older and work at the company. Not only has this 26 year old manager been talked about all around the company his confidence level has gone down because he has gotten less responsibility and less people he is in charge of. This kind of action can hurt someone’s work performance and overall self-evaluation of ones-self. We as leaders should never have to second guess our-selves. Now we must find out what the manager can do to improve the work relation between him and the employees under his command. Also help manager find his inner boss by helping to improve his self-esteem and also properly training him on being an affective

Look at the individual differences with in the work place and see the different dynamics we have to work with. For our organization we have a problem with attitudes, people’s emotions, and job performance. I believe the female employees job performance was effected by how she carried herself and her attitude when talking to the manager over her. Having a bad attitude about work or a person can negatively affect how you do your job on a daily basis. With that being said we should implement a monthly evaluation on our employees to ensure they understand what is expected from them on the job at all times. Doing this would help with understanding why certain situation come up and how to fix things either on the spot or within a timely manner. We can also put in the evaluation about what a employee could benefit from with good positive behavior on the job i.e awards, pay incentives, positive reinforcement and also getting feedback on anything that the employee does. For example if I was to do a evaluation on the female employee who was disrespectful to her manager she would get a evaluation that day staging what she did was wrong and that she needs to go talk to someone about her behavior like a psychologists within our organization. This could help with getting things cleared up about the behavior in our organization. To make sure that this is a legal and ethical we would need to get human

Before delving further into leadership and management theories and styles it is good to understand the difference between a manager and a leader. Bennis and Nanus (1985, p221) state that ‘managers are people who do things right and leaders are people that do the right thing.’ Yukl (2002, p7) goes on to suggest that leadership is the process of influencing others to understand and agree about what needs to be done and how it can be done effectively, and the process of facilitating individual and collective efforts to accomplish the shared objectives. However, Stodgill (1974:7) powerfully stated that ‘there are as many definitions of leadership as there are persons who have tried to define it.’ Although there are varying definitions to leadership…

CNO Jones’ form of management is similar to that of Theory X. Established by McGregor in 1960, theory X is an authoritarian leadership style that focuses on top down management. Kopelman, Prottas, and Davis (2008) note employees under theory X management are considered “lazy, are incapable of self-direction and autonomous work behavior, and have little to offer in terms of organizational problem solving” (p. 255). Prompting managers to micro-manage and make all decisions independently, no matter how it may affect the staff. This same behavior is seen in this case study. Although CNO Jones was fully aware of the hospitals declining financial status she did not take the time to inform her lower level staff.…

The behavioral methods of assessment can be conducted by using the critical incident method, where both positive and negative incidents are recorded. Another method is the behavioral observation scale (BOS) which according to Managing Human Resources allows the appraiser to play the role of observer instead of being a judge. Introduction As I reflect on this course and the results of the Questionnaires, Reflection, and Action Worksheets I have learned many aspects of leadership. I have analyzed the definition of leadership and now have a clearer understanding of it. According to, Introduction to Leadership; concepts and practice, by Peter Northouse (2015), leadership can be composed of many variables such as relationship, trait, ability, skill, behavior, and influence process. He also elaborates on how the “leadership of an individual can be used to influence a group to accomplish a common goal”. In addition, he discusses how leadership is not the same as management (Northouse, 2015, pp. 3-7).…
