Assignment 2- Placement Theory and Practice Coursework
The key purpose of the work placement was to develop my professionalism and to gain transferable skills. Through the first seven months of my placement I have experienced many different situations of how ‘Johnson n Johnson’ function as a business, this has allowed me to experience, obtain and develop skills that I will be able to take through my future career with me. Also, during my placement I have had the opportunity to apply knowledge I have acquired from my university course so far and use this to solve real-life problems in the workplace. In this report, I will reflect the relevant theories that I studied about on my course and how I have used and witnessed these during my work

Mental states are important to learning
3. Learning does not always lead to change in behaviour
Throughout my placement I have experienced the three concepts above, the majority of my learning has been through the first concept; observational learning. Bandura’s Social Learning Theory states that there are four stages involved in observational learning (Byrne, 2004).
The first stage is Attention, which is where observers learn when they pay attention to a mentor and actively watch while they complete a task. In the first week of my placement I was shadowing my predecessor, observing the daily responsibilities and tasks he did and that I would be taking over. Whilst watching I took many notes on how to complete the many tasks I would be doing, this is the second stage, Retention. This is where the observer makes mental representation of the mentor’s behaviour. Taking notes allowed me to express my understanding of how tasks need to be completed in my own words.
By implementing stage two, I had the essential information to perform some of the tasks I had observed. The third stage is Reproduction, this is where the observer performs the action that the mentor has been doing. There is often a physical limitation experienced during this stage. The barrier I faced when trying to replicate tasks I had observed was that I did not have the full access to the systems to pull the correct data

When working for the Department of Human Services – Centrelink as a Senior Practitioner I was responsible for preparing quarterly reports with my fellow Senior Practitioners with respect to the performance of staff and teams across the National Student Network. This report would be delivered to the team managers, Assistant Operations Managers and Operations manager in person and via video link. To ensure this process ran smoothly I would ensure my contributions were prepared ahead of deadlines, discuss contributions with my colleagues, cross check the contribution of my colleagues for accuracy and would learn key statistical information to be able to answer the questions of the wider leadership team. By being prepared and communicating openly, we were able to deliver the report accurately and effectively. I understand the need for productive working relationships, open and clear communication and using all resources available to create better outcomes within the APS.…

During my time at Optimist International, I would say the management was overall pretty effective. The management style that I witnessed the most and saw in other departments of the organization was delegation of tasks. I was lucky enough to sit in on a staff meeting roughly half way through my internship. It was led by the executive director of the company, but it was less of a demand on things that needed to be done, and more of a conversation between each employee and the status of their assigned tasks. The CEO usually had his things he did in his office, but would occasionally come and visit each department and chat about what the weekly tasks were and how everything was going.…
