Mental states are important to learning
3. Learning does not always lead to change in behaviour
Throughout my placement I have experienced the three concepts above, the majority of my learning has been through the first concept; observational learning. Bandura’s Social Learning Theory states that there are four stages involved in observational learning (Byrne, 2004).
The first stage is Attention, which is where observers learn when they pay attention to a mentor and actively watch while they complete a task. Whilst watching I took many notes on how to complete the many tasks I would be doing, this is the second stage, Retention. This is where the observer makes mental representation of the mentor’s behaviour. Taking notes allowed me to express my understanding of how tasks need to be completed in my own words.
By implementing stage two, I had the essential information to perform some of the tasks I had observed. The third stage is Reproduction, this is where the observer performs the action that the mentor has been doing. There is often a physical limitation experienced during this stage. The barrier I faced when trying to replicate tasks I had observed was that I did not have the full access to the systems to pull the correct data …show more content…
Our sub team that looks after Ethicon is made up of three people, myself, my line manager and another colleague. These slides contain the successes for the business from the previous week, priorities for this week, ongoing project work and a business update. During these meeting my manager encourages us to share the work we have been doing and if we have come across any innovative ideas that will help us do our job more
